In short
- Official prices are published by the Casablanca Stock Exchange on its website.
- The reference price is the previous day’s close; the change is measured against it.
- Volume and number of trades show how easy a stock is to buy or sell.
Where to find prices
The reference source is the official Casablanca Stock Exchange website: prices, session summary, indices and calendars (dividends, corporate actions). The same data is shown by broker platforms, often with the order book, by Moroccan business news sites, and by international sites, sometimes with a delay. You can also follow the market on our markets page.
Reading a price table, column by column
| Figure | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Stock | Company name and ticker, e.g. ATW for Attijariwafa bank or IAM for Maroc Telecom. |
| Reference price | Previous session’s closing price. |
| Last price | Price of the last trade. |
| Change (%) | Last price compared with the reference price. |
| High / Low | Highest and lowest price of the day. |
| Quantity traded | Number of shares traded. |
| Volume (MAD) | Total value traded in dirhams. |
| Market cap | Price × number of shares: the company’s stock market value. |
The order book
The order book shows the best buy offers and the best sell offers. The gap between the best buy price and the best sell price is the spread. The smaller it is, the easier it is to trade without moving the price. On small stocks, the spread can be wide. A limit order lets you set the price you accept.
Central market and block market
The central market is where everyone’s orders meet. The block market is for large trades negotiated between institutions. A big volume on the block market doesn’t mean the same thing as a big volume on the central market.
A few tips
- One day’s change says little: look over weeks or months.
- A rise without volume matters less than a rise with many trades.
- On the dividend date, the price drops by the dividend amount: it is not a loss for shareholders. See our dividends guide.
